Textures and Lines

My eyes are always drawn to lines, patterns and textures everywhere, and photographing flowers was no exception.

DS2_2505

The orchids specially have so many patterns and textures.

They’re like fingerprints … no two seem to be exactly alike.

DS2_2508

Maybe similar … but not the same.

There were even some that reminded me of those Rorschach blots and tests.  Do they still use those tests?

Or one of those art projects where you splatter blobs of paint on the paper; then fold the paper in half to make mirror images.

DS2_2477

Hmmm … this kind of looks like a face …

DS2_2467

Some look like they were painted on the petals …

DS2_2438

… and some look like sun rays ..

So much beauty in nature, isn’t there?

Iris Orchid

My new colour palette and flower obsession for this visit.

DS2_2077
iris flowerI call it the Iris Orchid, because the colours reminded me of the iris flower that I had taken a photo (at right) of some years back.  I do see some similarities to the orchid.  As usual, I didn’t look for the name plate that would identify this orchid. I’m getting bad at this, but then my focus wasn’t exactly on the scientific names of the orchids. I was just there to enjoy their beauty!

I wish there was an image search capability – for example, where I can show Google a picture and ask it to come up with the name?

Alien Orchid

The Alien Orchid.
The scientific name is ‘Paph Hsinying Alien ‘.

Charisse says that it reminds her of the creature in the movie ‘Alien’, way back in 1979? the first ‘Alien’ movie with Sigourney Weaver.  Specially this shot, with the thin strands of hair sticking out.

DS2_2198
I don’t know … I don’t see any resemblance to the alien creature.  I just wanted to take pictures of the colours and the patterns and texture on these flowers.

Spider Orchid

What I call the Spider Orchid … or a variety of it.

DS2_1742

I was very absent-minded this year, I wasn’t looking at the tags for the names of the orchids.  I’m now trying to google to find out the names.  Next year I’ll do better.  And if there are any orchid experts out there that can identify and name these, please do drop me a line!  Thanks in advance.
