Textures and Lines

My eyes are always drawn to lines, patterns and textures everywhere, and photographing flowers was no exception.

The orchids specially have so many patterns and textures.

They’re like fingerprints … no two seem to be exactly alike.

DS2_2508

Maybe similar … but not the same.

There were even some that reminded me of those Rorschach blots and tests.  Do they still use those tests?

Or one of those art projects where you splatter blobs of paint on the paper; then fold the paper in half to make mirror images.

Hmmm … this kind of looks like a face …

DS2_2467

Some look like they were painted on the petals …

… and some look like sun rays ..

Designs within designs …

So much beauty in nature, isn’t there?

Spider Orchid

What I call the Spider Orchid … or a variety of it.

DS2_1742

I was very absent-minded this year, I wasn’t looking at the tags for the names of the orchids.  I’m now trying to google to find out the names.  Next year I’ll do better.  And if there are any orchid experts out there that can identify and name these, please do drop me a line!  Thanks in advance.

My Pi Day

So today is Pi Day … 3.14

3.14 was significant to me only because it’s my day of birth, many moons ago. It was only recently that, maybe three years ago, that I’ve seen this day referred to as Pi Day. huh?? ‘Pi Day’?

Don’t know how long that’s been going on, but I know that I never heard of ‘Pi Day’ all these past years. This day has always been my day.

I usually take the day off for me and me alone, but not this year. I’ve run out of my leave days, used up between the boys medical visits and tournaments and other odds and ends that needs to be done during week days only.  That’s okay, I’ll just take my day off some other time.

We’re going out for dinner tonight.  Maybe I can doodle some more on the tablecloth, just like the one pictured above done over the weekend, while waiting for our dinner to be served.

Hmmm …. maybe I can collect a series of doodles while waiting in restaurants …

Three Sunsets in One

My last sunset in Entebbe … and it didn’t disappoint.

It was like three sunsets in one evening … every time I would look up, the colours seemed to change.

And on the other side of the lake, a different reflection …

All with that same water-colour wash effect …

I’ll really miss these sunsets …

Purple

Purple flowers, to start off Monday.  And for the new crafting cause, Purple Stitch Project.

This last shot reminds me of  ”The Little Shop of Horrors”, and the Venus Flytrap, Seymore, singing “Feed me!  Feeed meee!”

Oh-kay … *sigh*  it’s only Monday, and my brains are already too crazy!  Imagine what it’ll be like when Friday and the weekend comes along?  No wonder the boys just shake their heads at me.
