It’s Summer Today!¬†

Temperatures might drop again next week but we’ve got hot sunshine today.

So we left work an hourly early to enjoy the sunshine ūüė¨

It’s an Orange Day¬†

You know how sometimes everything just lines up, but it’s not really coincidence?

Well, today is one of those days. ¬†Appropriate too, I suppose, since we’re in the middle of summer now, and it’s nice, glorious sunshine outside !

What’s orange today?

I saw an orange flower …

I was wearing orange today …

A colleague is also wearing orange …

My wall calendar, composed of photos I took, shows a flaming orange sunflower …

I helped catch an orange Pokemon for hubby … a Magmar, and it’s orange …

And I’m adding the red-orange skies too, just because ūüôā

And how is your day?

It’s All About the Weather …

I thought that summer was finally on its way … and then spring weather blew in overnight.  A light jacket came out of the closet again, after I thought I had put it away for a few months …

Not that I’m complaining about warm winter, but the weather this past year really has been an actual topic, not just a casual weather report.

And I’m back to waiting for hot sun …

Summer is Here

Summer is finally here …

And with it the realization that this blog has been neglected for some time. ¬†Apologies for that … we will remedy that soon! ¬†Oh! ¬†and how have you all been? ¬†Life has been treating you well?

Life, in some ways, is rather predictable, with the same routine and schedules. ¬†You know how it is … you run out of hours in a day … the daily stress of juggling between work, children, schooling, schedules, competing demands, forgotten repeated reminders (my phone must be getting tired of sending me reminders that I keep rescheduling, like hitting the snooze button on the alarm clock), catching enough hours of sleep (because, you know, if I don’t get enough hours of sleep, don’t talk more than a few sentences at a time to me; I will stare at you for a few seconds more before it even registers in my brain) … and one day, you walk out the door and you realize that summer is here and it’s humid!!

And as I walked around the corner, I also realized that I had forgotten about the perennial hydrangeas. ¬†They finally bloomed, after this crazy¬†see-saw spring-winter weather ¬† (which I’m not complaining about!).

I just had time to take a quick snapshot with the camera phone. ¬†Which also reminded me that I missed out on the NYBG Orchid Show this year … ūüė¶ ¬†ūüė¶ ¬†ūüė¶

I think a change is in order … whether it’s to the daily routines or take out something and add something new … Something has to change …

Baked Bread

After a week in Kinshasa, we moved on to Goma for the rest of the trip.

Knowing that there were going to be long days and nights of work for the coming weeks, we went to the Lake Kivu Serena Hotel in Gisenyi, Rwanda, for their Sunday brunch.

As before, we walked across to the border, and then a 20-minute leisurely walk to the hotel.  We enjoyed brunch, a continental breakfast, including made to order omelettes,  crepes, local dishes such as mutoke, tilapia, and a variety of juices Рtry the tamarind juice  it was a nice blend of tangy and sweet Рand a complimentary glass of champagne at the end!

The carved watermelon was what drew me to this table … and only realized later that the turtle and crocodile? were actually baked bread! ¬†The boys wanted to know why they would make bread animals; they weren’t going to eat that, they said lol

Enjoying the view of Lake Kivu. ¬†The cloud formations in this part of the world are still the best I’ve seen – all those puffs and balls of clouds!¬†¬†¬†

We let the showers pass by before we started our walk back to the border and DRC. ¬†And of course I had to take photos of flowers …

All Rolled Up

The petals are all curled up …

I thought that’s how the flowers really bloom, but on closer look, it seems that they roll up … when? ¬†Because it’s raining? ¬†it’s late summer? it’s late afternoon? ¬†it’s the last stages of blooming?

Hmmm … more research needed …

Textured Purples and Greens

After noticing the purples and greens at the Orchid Show earlier this year, I see them everywhere now …¬†Wonder why I never noticed them before?

Or perhaps they are so vibrant this year than before?

Perhaps it’s because of the late summer, and the colours are changing …
